Counselling Approach
Counselling Approach
I truly love my job as a psychologist. Seeing individuals take steps toward healing and personal growth for themselves and in their relationships is very rewarding. Psychological counselling itself is a unique opportunity to work in a supportive, safe, and caring professional relationship where you can explore issues and work towards goals.
As an 'easy to talk to' registered psychologist I deeply understand how therapeutic rapport or 'the right fit' between psychologist and client is a significant factor in change. In my work with clients I believe in a down-to-earth, hope-filled, and holistic approach (i.e. emotion, cognitive, physical, environmental, relationships, and spiritual) which focuses on excellence in client care. A genuine, warm, and welcoming counselling environment is important in providing a positive counselling experience, developing practical and effective tools, building on strengths, and finding direction.
Each person and couple I see in counselling is different and as a result I have training in and incorporate a variety of evidence-based therapeutic approaches such as:
- Gottman Therapy
- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
- Solution-Focused
- Hope-Focused
- Strengths-Based
- Person-Centered
- Mindfulness-Based Approaches
- Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
